The airport is the largest airport in the Caribbean Region and started to operate as Santo Domingo Airport in 1959.  In 2002 the airport changed its name to Las Americas International Airport. In 2007, a new passenger terminal was built at Las Americas International Airport and is the second busiest airport in the Dominican Republic. The airport is used by 3 and a half million passengers a year. Today, renovation and modernisation work still continues. Getting to the City Center from Las Americas Intl. Airport

The most commonly preferred way to get to the city center from Las Americas International Airport is using a taxi or benefitting from the airport shuttle service offered by certain hotels. On the other hand, if you wish, you can rent a car. There is not any means of public transportation or shuttle bus carrying passengers to the city center.

Car Rental    

At Las Americas International Airport, there are a few number of car rental companies. If you drive southwards on the highway numbered 3 with the car you have rented, you can arrive to Boca Chica in about 12 minutes. If you drive westwards on the same highway, you can get to Santo Domingo in about 50 minutes.
